Minor Ailments Scheme
Treatment of your
Minor Ailments by your Community Pharmacist
Do you have to
wait to see a Doctor?
No,
you don’t need to wait to see the Doctor as you can get advice and
treatment from your pharmacist. Some Pharmacists will be able to
prescribe medicines to treat the following conditions effectively.
What conditions are covered?
- Constipation
- Cystitis - (women only aged 16 to 65)
- Dermatitis/Eczema/Skin Rashes
- Diarrhoea
- Head Lice
- Hay fever / allergies
- Indigestion/Heartburn/Tummy Upset
- Nappy Rash
- Sore Throat
- Temperature, Aches and Pains
- Vaginal Thrush
Are you eligible
for the scheme?
Yes,
you are eligible for the scheme as long as you are suffering from at
least one of the conditions. People who are normally exempt from
prescription charges can also access the service without incurring any
costs for the medication.
Can you go to any
pharmacy?
Most of the local pharmacies are participating in this scheme, with
exception of Rowland Pharmacy Chalbury Corner Preston.
What do you have to do
next?
You
can go straight to one of the pharmacies taking part in the scheme
where the pharmacist will see you without an appointment. You will be
asked questions about your symptoms, these will include details about
other medication you are currently taking and details about your
illness. This is to make sure that the medicines you are given are
suitable for you, all details given to the pharmacist are confidential.
Will you always receive
medication?
No,
you may not require any medication but if this is the case the
pharmacist will give you advice on how best to deal with your symptoms.
If
it is appropriate the pharmacist will give the right medicines for you.
This medicine is only for you, it may not be right for anybody else
even if they have similar symptoms.
The pharmacist will also tell you the best way to take the medicine and
other ways to help manage your ailments.
How much will this cost?
Patients who are exempt from prescription charges will receive all
medication within the scheme free of charge.
Patients
who pay for prescriptions will receive medication where appropriate
under the scheme. A charge for medication will be payable.
What should you do if
your symptoms persist?
IT IS IMPORTANT for you to seek further advice from your GP or Nurse
Practitioner, if your symptoms persist.
