The Dorset Primary Care Mental Health Service now aims to help you access talking therapies quickly and easily.
Talking therapies can be helpful for anyone experiencing a range of difficulties and problems. Perhaps you may be suffering from some kind of personal loss or may be struggling to overcome more generalised anxiety or depression.
The service can help you:
- Address present problems.
- Perhaps explore past events which may be affecting the present.
- Gain a new understanding of your difficulties and develop new coping strategies.
- Make decisions or changes for the future in a non-judgmental supportive environment.
The service aims to offer:
Support for people in Dorset who are suffering from common mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety.
There are a number of services available to patients.
- Relaxation and managing your stress
- Art of Assertiveness
Self-help which may include guided self-help, focusing on the current situation and helping you to move forward.
Sign-posting to other useful local and national resources, including books, websites and organisations.
Talking therapies such as counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy, working with a professional who can help you to gain skills and techniques to better understand and manage your life.
This is a free and confidential NHS service currently operating through Dorset GP surgeries and is open to anyone aged 16 and over.
All that is required of you is a commitment to engage with the service/treatment.
